Zoom Have ten minutes? You, too, can cook a tasty clam lunch.
Chop 2 slices of bacon into small pieces and cook over high heat in a saucepan.
When fat is rendered and bacon bits brown, add a cup of beer and lots of sliced green onions (including white stems).
Rinse clams (I used 10, but this recipe should work for 6-12 clams, easily) and add to saucepan to steam once the beer is boiling, covered, until clams open. (Discard any unopen clams - they’re dead and can’t be trusted.) Taste, and add more beer before removing from heat if the bacon has made the broth too salty.
Transfer to bowl and serve hot. Sop up the leftover sauce with toasted bread.
If you prefer, you can use white wine instead of beer, or garlic/shallots instead of green onions. I happened to have some fantastic farmers’ market green onions on hand so I used those. Liberally.

Zoom The “Elvis” cupcake from Robicelli’s. I tried it for the first time at DeKalb Market a couple weekends ago: banana cupcake topped with a bacon-infused, peanut butter buttercream frosting and bacon bits. I nearly wept after I savored the last bite.
You should go try one. DeKalb Market is doing $1 mimosas again this weekend until 2 pm. Go get ‘em, tiger.

Tim Ferriss presents two shortcuts to better-tasting wine: aerating via Vinturi, blending with an immersion blender or one of those hand-held milk frother things. You’ll notice the most significant change in taste when aerating older vintages. Decanters are lovely, but who wants to wait three hours to let their wine breathe? When I open a bottle, I mean to drink it shortly thereafter. I use my Vinturi wine aerator religiously, but I have never tried blending. Time for an experiment!

Zoom Time Out says that the tacos al arabes from Ricos Tacos on 51st St and 5th Ave in Sunset Park are some of the best in NYC. I heartily agree. It is a hybrid of a classic Mexican taco and a gyro. Spit-fired pork wrapped in a flour tortilla slightly thicker than a regular tortilla but much thinner than a pita. Avocado hot sauce here is the bomb. Also strongly recommend the taco de lengua (tongue) and the carnitas. Delicioso.
